The First Saints Super Bowl Parade
It was a once in a lifetime happening, The First Saints Super Bowl Parade. The streets were packed 10-15- people deep so we found a place around the finish line at Mothers Restaurant by the Hilton. It was only 2 or 3 people deep and surrounded by mud for agile parade viewers only. The crowd was a complete mix of all demographics united for a shared emotional celebration with the team that won the Super Bowl. The parade was led by newly elected Mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu, friend of Shirley Marvin and Rockmore supporter. We had invited Mitch to the first Rockmore event in 2007 which he agreed to come to as a favor to long time family friend Shirley and make a speech. We then got nervous about our numbers and gave him a pass.
Drew Brees was on float #2 at the very top about three stories up from us. Tee had a plan to get her extra $30 jersey signed by throwing it up to him with a pen and an address on a notecard to send it to us in case he could not throw it back. Unfortunately, her toss was short and landed by a lineman who looked perplexed. Tee took off in a trot running after the float (against all rules) yelling at Drew and the lineman trying to help them figure it out and get her the signed jersey. Drew Brees saw her chasing the float and passed her a bag of beads from 3 stories up. It almost took her head off but she got her hand up in front of her face to distribute the impact, retained her balance and caught the beads with her head. The crowd went wild! We lost a $30 shirt but got a heck of a story.
