Our next stop was to pick up Noel’s girlfriend from 1978-1983, Rita Posselt, in the French Qtr. and head over to see Gypsy Lou Webb who has recently lost her sister that she lived with in Slidell for the last 20 something years. Rita was in fine spirits despite a recent hit and run on her car and we drove through a torrential downpour with street flooding to see Gypsy Lou Webb at her home. Gypsy Lou was also in good shape despite a recent painful bump on her leg. At 92, some things that seem minor can actually be quite major and vice-versa.
After some chit-chat we decided to make our way to Gypsy Lou’s favorite saloon and dining spot, the biker friendly Southside Café. We had a nice time and got to watch Rita view our Rockmore book compilation for the first time. She was able to point out several mistakes especially in her section which was most helpful. Shirley enjoyed the whole experience as well and is really the glue that connects us all besides Rockmore of course. How fun to visit a 92 year old icon with my 87 year old mom and quaff down a few beers in a totally relaxed atmosphere – assuming you like bikers, which we all do.
